To address this, California is considering a “Road Charge” which is a mileage-based fee that would charge drivers based on how far they travel. Residents would pay based on how many miles they drive, so if you drive more, you pay more.

Major automakers, including General Motors, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Hyundai, are urging Congress to block California’s plan to ban sales of gas-only cars by 2035. The House is set to vote this week on whether to overturn former president Biden’s approvals that allows California to ban new gas-powered car sales and require at least 80 percent of vehicles sold by 2035 to be electric.

On Thursday, Governor Gavin Newsom and Cal Fire officials unveiled a new C-130 Hercules airtanker. It’s the second of seven retrofitted planes designed to drop water and fire retardant. The aircraft were secured through the National Defense Authorization Act. The aircraft can release 4,000 gallons of water or fire retardant in under five seconds and fly up to 800 miles per mission making it the fastest, farthest-reaching, and most powerful tanker in CAL FIRE’s fleet.
