New C-130 Tanker Joins California Firefighting Fleet

On Thursday, Governor Gavin Newsom and Cal Fire officials unveiled a new C-130 Hercules airtanker. It’s the second of seven retrofitted planes designed to drop water and fire retardant. The aircraft were secured through the National Defense Authorization Act. The aircraft can release 4,000 gallons of water or fire retardant in under five seconds and fly up to 800 miles per mission making it the fastest, farthest-reaching, and most powerful tanker in CAL FIRE’s fleet.
California Surpasses Japan as 4th-Largest Economy

Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday that his state has officially surpassed Japan to become the fourth-largest economy in the world, based on new data from the International Monetary Fund and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. The data shows that California’s nominal gross domestic product has reached $4.1 trillion. This means the Golden State has now surpassed Japan, whose GDP sits at $4.02 trillion.
