National Institutes of Health (NIH) director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya confirmed on Sunday that the agency closed its final in-house beagle laboratory at the NIH headquarters in Maryland. “We got rid of all the beagle experiments on the NIH campus,” Bhattacharya revealed during an interview with Fox & Friends on Sunday. The White House press secretary confirmed on Monday that the administration has permanently closed down the test labs accused of abusing beagles for more than 40 years.

Rwanda has entered early talks on potentially taking in illegal immigrant deportees from the United States, Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe announced on May 4. “We are in discussions with the United States,” Nduhungirehe said in an interview with Rwanda TV, a state-run broadcaster. He said talks are only in the earliest stages. “It has not yet reached a stage where we can say exactly how things will proceed, but the talks are ongoing,” the foreign minister said.

The Supreme Court decided on May 5 not to hear a challenge to the federal government’s approval of a major offshore wind project off the Massachusetts coast. The court’s decision came without comment in an unsigned order in Seafreeze Shoreside Inc. v. Department of the Interior. No justices dissented. The lead petitioner, Seafreeze Shoreside, is a seafood processing company. The project, known as Vineyard Wind 1, is located 15 miles off the coast of Nantucket Island.

President Donald Trump is asking Congress to approve a budget that would eliminate or make cuts to some health programs. Trump’s proposed fiscal year 2026 budget includes $32 million in cuts to health programs and offices. The president wants to eliminate more than a dozen programs, including the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, Preschool Development Grants, the Preventive Health and Human Services Block Grant, and the Sexual Risk Avoidance Program.
