Goldberg wrote that he did not know why he had been added to the conversation, which he said took place with “shocking recklessness.” The National Security Council said in a statement to the magazine that the thread appeared to be authentic. The magazine elected not to publish the most sensitive messages, which contained specific operational plans.

The price of eggs has risen by nearly 50 percent in the Boston area since the fall, data show, driven by a deadly bird flu outbreak adding to already-high prices all over the supermarket. More than 150 million birds have been killed by the avian flu since January 2022 across the United States, with farmers culling infected flocks in an attempt to contain the damage.
