Sedona police officers responded to the Midgley Bridge area at 5:53 a.m. Monday, June 2, to assist the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office in locating an individual reported to be threatening suicide. Initial attempts to locate the subject were unsuccessful. Upon the arrival of CCSO deputies, the scene was turned over to the county, with Sedona police officers remaining on scene to assist with securing the area to allow the search.

Sedona police arrested Erica Ann Montgomery, 48, on Friday, May 30, who had been found guilty the day before of assaulting a Sedona police officer with a crowbar after a traffic stop in November 2023. A Yavapai County jury had found Montgomery guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument against a peace officer, two counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer and one count of resisting arrest, according to Yavapai County Attorney Dennis McGrane.

The city of Sedona’s first employee, Marie Angela Brown, died Saturday, May 10, at age 81. Marie was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1943. In June 1987, Brown moved with her husband James T. Brown and family to what was not yet Sedona — a place where they had owned property since 1977. Brown soon became an active member of the community, collaborating with the League of Arizona Cities and Towns to campaign for incorporation.

A tourist visiting Cathedral Rock southwest of Sedona city limits captured video of a group of four young men vandalizing the red rocks at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 20. The tourist had just hiked to first bench and was out breath. The tourist who captured the vandalism in progress contacted the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office and the Red Rock Ranger Station.
