At the end of April, two Delta College organizations held their own graduation celebrations, recognizing graduating students and commending those who won awards and scholarships. PHOENIX PROJECTOn April 29 the Phoenix Project, a group for formerly incarcerated students, had a celebration of graduating students. The formal event included theme decorations and catered dinner.

At the most recent board meeting, CDSBEO trustees discussed the Summer Learning and FACE programs. Trustees at the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) took time at the latest board meeting on August 29 to discuss two board initiatives to support students. The Friends and Advocates of Catholic Education (FACE) program works to celebrate the value and importance of Catholic education in Ontario.

After an overwhelming public outcry, Champlain Township council revisited the Heritage Inventory proposal presented in June. Council was greeted by a large group of local residents at the August 24 meeting, each one of them holding a letter in their hand. When the agenda reached that particular discussion item, each of the residents stepped up to the podium and read from their letters, voicing their support for the Heritage Inventory program.

After two months of deliberation and meetings with attorneys, the Highlands Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to enter a Stay of Proceedings, which delays the enforcement of the short-term rental ban scheduled for Jan. 3, until Feb. 1, 2022. Before voting on the matter, the board heard public comments from the public on short term rentals.
