There were no pews at the old St. Mary of the Assumption parish, and the altar was covered in graffiti, but she couldn’t stop beaming at the intact stained glass windows — ones Pope Leo XIV once likely marveled at when he was a boy named Robert Prevost, attending the Chicago church just across the street from the border with Dolton, where he grew up.
