    After weeks of negotiation and disagreements, the Salvation Army’s hope of being rescued by funding from Cumberland County is no more. According to a June 20 news release, Cumberland County will no longer pursue a contract with the Salvation Army of the Sandhills to reopen its Fayetteville shelter, ending weeks of stalled negotiations over funding terms and building safety. In the release, the county said there is no Memorandum of Understanding or executed contract in place.

    Fun in the sun is underway as all of Cumberland County's 14 free splash pads are open as of May 1, and pools are set to open Memorial Day, according to the Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation website. The last pool swim day of the season is Labor Day, Sept. 5, with splash pads closing for the year Sept. 30, according to the website. Here's a list of all the Cumberland County pools and splash pads, where they are and hours of operation.
