CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Following a reported sexual assault incident on Appalachian State University’s campus in Boone on Wednesday, lack of information about the incident causes some to question if North Carolina law goes far enough. Appalachian State students received a campus ALERT around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday notifying them there had been a sexual assault reported that day in Frank Residence Hall and that the suspect was unknown.

BOONE, N.C. (WBTV) - Shockwaves were sent through the campus of Appalachian State University Wednesday night after a report of a sexual assault occurred in a dorm, according to school officials. Campus police said the assault was reported to have occurred Wednesday night and in a freshman dorm in the Blue Ridge Mountains. School officials said on Thursday evening that the suspect had not been identified and a description of the person had not been released at the time of this writing.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - After a nearly 20-year delay, the REAL ID starts being enforced for domestic flights and most federal buildings across the country Wednesday. TSA reported no major delays and that they expected about 80 percent of travelers to need additional screening because they did not have a REAL ID or a passport. One woman said she did not have hers yet so she brought extra documents in her suitcase.

MARVIN, N.C. (WBTV) - The Union County Fire Marshal ruled that a fence installed across the main roadway of a neighborhood is a violation of fire code. A private fence was built by a homeowner in the Marvin neighborhood Marvin Estates. The fence crosses the main roadway entrance in and out of the neighborhood -- and the fire marshal said it is a fire code and an inhibitor to emergency vehicles.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Following news of a decrease in vessel imports from China, economists say lower supply and a hike in price on certain groceries is inevitable. The food imports from China include: fish, shrimp, tea, spices, apple juice, snack food, garlic, canned mandarin oranges, and other canned and fresh fruits and vegetables. Charlotte resident Beverly Groom said she keeps a close eye on her grocery bill.
