CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A 15-year-old is on his way to college. Josiah Matthews graduated early from High School. He was homeschooled and was able to take multiple classes at the same time. “I just remember doing 3rd and 4th grades together,” Josiah Matthews said. “And 5th, 6th, and 7th grades together.” WBTV asked the 15-year-old says it was challenging to do work for multiple grades at the same time. “It was at times when I lacked motivation,” Matthews said.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Leaders from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) were in Charlotte Monday to inform the community about its 116th Convention. It will be held at the Charlotte Convention Center starting July 9th. NAACP CEO Derrick Johnson said in the convention’s history this is the first time the organization will not be inviting the President of the United States. “It is our job to make our democracy work,” President/CEO Derrick Johnson said.

SALISBURY, N.C. (WBTV) - The community has been asked to help Livingstone College President Dr. Anthony Davis with a kidney transplant. There will be an event on Thursday, June 12th at Livingstone College to hold a blood drive to help the college president find his match. Davis recently revealed he has been living with Stage 5 kidney disease. He tells WBTV his kidneys are functioning at about 8%. He admits his condition could have been prevented.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - As dozens of parents and stakeholders are expected to show up to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board meeting Thursday regarding two principal suspensions, District 6’s board member issues a statement to WBTV. District 6’s board member Summer Nunn represents the area that includes Ardrey Kell High School. Ardrey Kell High School Principal Jamie Brooks was suspended with pay on May 2nd, and weeks later announced her retirement.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Mecklenburg County Commissioners are prepared to vote on its $2.5 billion budget Tuesday night. The budget includes a .96 property tax increase and cuts to community service grants. The tax increase and cuts are to help cover a $29 million budget gap. If approved the owner of an average home will start to pay about $3 extra in taxes per month starting July 1. Last year the county spent $2,013,060.00 on community service grants.
