High street retailer Quiz has closed 23 stores after tumbling into insolvency, including one branch in Kent. It comes after the fashion chain was hit by a downturn in custom, with disappointing sales over the key Christmas period. The brand was bought in a pre-pack insolvency deal, which has seen new owner Orion save 42 of its shops. However, administrators have now closed 23 stores in the UK and Ireland which were deemed “loss-making or unsustainable” by the new owner.

A former nightclub, set to be turned into flats after it closed seven years ago, is on the market after developers behind the scheme went into receivership. Construction work had begun converting what was Source of Sound, better known as SOS, in Tonbridge into 23 apartments, plus a ground-floor commercial unit. However, Watling Real Estate has now listed the Avebury Avenue site for sale after receivers Martyn Ewing and Adam Stephens of Evelyn Partners were called in.

People feeling unsafe in a town centre can now contact the emergency services at the touch of a button. A call point has been installed near the clock tower in Sheerness High Street which connects directly to Swale council’s CCTV control centre. Operators can then provide immediate assistance - whether it’s offering reassurance, directing emergency services, or monitoring the situation via the in-built call point camera or nearby CCTV cameras which have a view of the entire high street.

A Spitfire pirouetting overhead, Union flags everywhere you look, a chorus of Jerusalem and of course, rain. Bucketing rain. Is there anything more wonderfully British than Leeds Castle’s Classical Concert? For more than 40 years crowds have been trudging through the stunning medieval grounds laden with picnic baskets, camping chairs and even candelabras for the event. Most people we saw also had umbrellas.
