Transferring from a larger school, she hadn’t had a lot of one-on-one time with a counselor to work out plans for her future. But at Indy Met, she got involved with the Jobs for America’s Graduates program, a college prep and career class. Now, Washington’s completed her financial aid forms and has applied for college — and she credits the class with helping her stay on track.

    Teens looking for something to do this summer while earning some cash may consider this camp at the Edna Martin Christian Center. The center’s Summer Works program offers high school juniors and seniors a chance to learn about college and careers. Students will do three weeks of skills training followed by three weeks of work experience. There will also be college visit opportunities. Lunch will be provided, and participants will receive a $1,000 stipend.

    Martin University is hosting its annual reentry fair April 25 to help community members find jobs and resources after incarceration. Community organizations and employers such as StepUp Indiana, RecycleForce, Fathers and Families Center, Constructing our Future, and Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana will be at the Second Chance Expo. Attendees will be able to apply to jobs with second chance employers at the event.

The move is, in part, a response to the end of pandemic-era funding, including nearly $14 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds, as well as some other grants from other funders. The nonprofit will scale back, but not eliminate, certain programs. Much of that money EmployIndy is losing was to help Indianapolis residents recover from COVID-19, per president and CEO .
