An open letter to politicians from college principal Jim Metcalfe said they are working to "minimise the effects wherever possible" of a £1.3m decrease in funds but said said the cuts would have a "stark effect" on the facility. Detectives have appealed for information about the incident at Tesco in Duloch and are linking it with two thefts which took place in Glasgow hours later. Police Scotland say that three people wearing masks broke into premises on Turnstone Road at around 12.25am today (Friday) and stole a sum of cash. Then, at 2.20am they broke into a garage in Old Shettleston, Glasgow but did not manage to get anything.

The shocking statistics come from a study which was carried out by Loughborough University for the End Child Poverty Coalition. It highlighted that 21.2 per cent of all children – 4,051 youngsters – across the Dunfermline and Dollar constituency are living in relative poverty, after the cost of housing is considered. In the Cowdenbeath and Kirkcaldy parliamentary area, the figures revealed 27.3 per cent – a total of 4,703– were locked in poverty.

An application of a second phase of grant funding – for £6.1m - from the Scottish Government's Housing Infrastructure Fund is to be made to allow the successful delivery of infrastructure needed for planned growth across the city. The first phase of cash helped pay for projects at Pitreavie Roundabout and also the recent Bothwell Roundabout work and calls to ensure lessons have been learned after the latter caused well documented issues for motorists and businesses in the area.
