    Looks like the next areas of Bedford to be regenerated have been selected. Historic England has awarded a £490,000 grant for Bedford Borough Council to revitalise the Tavistock Street and Broadway areas of the town. And the council is encouraging property owners and businesses to get involved in this next phase of regeneration which it says will breathe new life into the area. There will be building repairs and shopfronts enhanced with historic features restored – just like the High Street.

    Visitors flocked to Bedford this weekend for a plethora of fun on the river … and in the skies. Yes, it was Bedford Kite and Motoring Festival – and Sue Ryder Dragon Boat Race. And more importantly, the weather played ball as crowds basked in the heat. The free family festival – held across Russell Park, The Embankment, and Mill Meadows – featured professional kite flying displays, over 200 vehicles, Year of Reading, lots of yummy food as well as the aforementioned dragon boat racing.

The birthplace of legend Ronnie Barker has just gone on the market – complete with plaque (more on that later).     Mohammad Yasin has spoken of his “difficult decision” to vote against the Bill to legalise assisted dying in England and Wales. It was narrowly backed by just 23 votes earlier today (Friday), meaning the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill will now go to the House of Lord for further scrutiny. And in a post on social media, the MP for Bedford & Kempston thanked the many constituents who had written to him on the “important and emotive issue”.
