    There was a huge turnout at this year’s colourful Arbury Carnival, which took place on Saturday (14 June). The mayor, Cllr Dinah Pounds, officially opened the event – the theme of which for 2025 was ‘This is the Greatest Show’. The procession followed a different route from previous years, starting and finishing at Arbury Town Park, and going through Campkin Road, Hawkins Road, then back on Campkin Road, before returning to Arbury Town Park.

    American folk/rock/country singer-songwriter Dawn Landes is to bring her The Liberated Woman’s Songbook project to Cambridge this month, before taking it to the Glastonbury Festival. Her upcoming gig at The Portland Arms follows her performance of The Liberated Woman’s Songbook – an album of the same name released in 2024 – at The Barbican last autumn, where she captivated audiences with a powerful set celebrating women’s voices.

    A carpet shop owner has taken to using a horse and cart to cross Mill Road bridge in Cambridge to get past the bus gate restrictions. John Ball, owner of Cut Price Carpets in Mill Road, said the closure of the bridge to most motor vehicles has been “devastating” for his business. “I got the horse and cart to go over and do deliveries and estimates over the other side of the bridge, because they can’t fine me for taking it over the bridge,” he said.
