On Sunday, Nov. 12, members of the 7C community gathered around Beckett Hall at Claremont McKenna College (CMC) to celebrate Diwali. Organized by the 7C Hindu Society, Asian Pacific American Mentoring (APAM) and Asian Pacific American Student Association (APASA), the celebration welcomed international Indian students, Indian American students and the broader Claremont community.

Last Friday, students from across the Claremont Colleges came together to buy and sell artwork to raise funds for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF). The fundraiser, held on Nov. 10 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Pomona College’s Walker Hall, was organized to raise awareness and funds for the ongoing humanitarian crisis facing Palestinian children. The event was approved by Pomona, but was solely student-organized and run.

On Wednesday afternoon, over 350 Claremont students walked out of classes to demand that the Claremont Colleges divest from companies and manufacturers that support the Israeli government, citing the Boycott, Divest and Sanctions (BDS) movement. The demonstration and delegation effort was part of a nationwide student walkout calling for an end to Israel’s occupation of historically Palestinian land and U.S. support of what many international groups recognize as Israeli apartheid.

The Golden Antlers’ first open mic event of the year kicked off with an enthusiastic lineup of performers, covering topics ranging from the trials and tribulations of dating to coming out of the closet. Organized by Ella Lehavi SC ’25, the performers included Charlotte Imbert PO ’25, Eli Edelman PZ ’24, Julius Skestos PZ ’25, Nathan Chabin PZ ’25, Jackie Owen SC ’27, Aidan Henrikson PZ ‘25 and Lily Wellington PZ ‘24. Lehavi opened the show with a set highlighting their take on top surgery.

This Monday, Scripps College Public Events and the Laspa Center for Leadership hosted U.S. Rep. Judy Chu D-Ca., who serves California’s 28th district in Congress, for a presentation and Q&A about reproductive healthcare and justice. Around 40 students and faculty members gathered to hear Representative Chu’s talk, with some students citing political awareness in Claremont as their reason for attending.
