A 35-year-old man sentenced to life in prison in 2020 for murdering his Russian fiancée is on trial again after appealing his conviction. In 2023, William Chase Hargrove was granted an appeal overturning his conviction because of a search warrant issue, based on case law that came out after the case first went to trial, and some evidence being improperly obtained. He had received a life sentence the first time around.

With Memorial Day approaching, students at Corvallis high schools have been given a window into the history of American military service through special exhibits. Military uniforms representing veterans from the Revolutionary War to present-day service are on display at Corvallis High and Crescent Valley High. Directors of the Benton County Veterans Memorial collaborated with staff members Jon Strowbridge at Crescent Valley and Ross Duerfeldt at Corvallis to bring the displays to the students.

A pair of 20-year-old Salem women face several charges, including attempted murder in connection with a weekend shooting in Benton County, after authorities caught up to the second suspect on Thursday, May 22. The Sheriff’s Office said on Saturday, May 17, it was on the lookout for two women involved in a shooting early that morning in the area of Highway 99W and Lakeside Drive. A man who was reportedly shot in a vehicle suffered nonlife-threatening injury.

A 20-year-old Salem woman faces several charges, including attempted murder, in connection with a weekend shooting in Benton County. Another suspect involved in the incident remains at large and is sought by authorities. On Wednesday, May 21, Julia Dell Yepez was arraigned on felony counts of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree kidnapping and unlawful weapon use, as well as misdemeanor menacing and reckless endangering.

Authorities allege a man threatened people with a knife and a bat in separate incidents at a Mill City residence on the Linn County side, then engaged in self-harm after his arrest. Andrew Troy Taylor, 42, is charged with two felony counts of unlawful weapon use, two misdemeanor counts of menacing and a count of attempted assault of a public safety officer, also a misdemeanor.
