COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — The Coeur d’Alene Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday unanimously approved a zone change request that will allow a day care facility that serves only Kootenai Health employees to expand. “This is again something we need in our community,” said Commissioner Lynn Fleming. “We need our hospital and we need our moms to be content to work and focus, so this is a good thing.” Commissioner Phil Ward agreed. He said day care is a primary need in the community.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — Idahoans are turning out to vote in record numbers and reporting increased confidence in election security, said Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane. McGrane sat down with The Press on Wednesday to discuss the future of Idaho’s elections, the day after he testified before the U.S. House Administration Subcommittee on Elections. “The fact that Idaho had a seat at the table is a pretty cool thing,” he said.

BOISE, Idaho — A bill placing sweeping prohibitions on DEI in public higher education institutions passed the House on Thursday and will go to the governor for consideration. House members debated Senate Bill 1198 for around 30 minutes, before voting 52-17 with one member absent to pass it. The bill prohibits required training, courses, centers and activities that are based on concepts that fall within DEI, which stands for diversity, equity and inclusion.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — A man accused of fatally shooting his ex’s boyfriend has pleaded not guilty to multiple felony charges. Jason Rook, 47, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 46-year-old Nathan Rogers, as well as with burglary and first-degree stalking, all felonies. Rook entered pleas of not guilty Thursday. The charges stem from Feb. 23, when a woman reported to police that she saw someone enter her Post Falls home and believed her boyfriend, Nathan Rogers, had been shot.
