This was after she set off to become a nurse but ended up obtaining an emergency medical technician license and a master’s degree in public safety and leadership with an emphasis on fire and working in law enforcement and fire dispatch.

Meet Abbie Waters, who was born and raised in Coeur d'Alene and continues to raise her own young family in the area. A University of Idaho Vandal grad, Abbie is a special education teacher with the Coeur d'Alene School District and has been working with individuals with disabilities for almost a decade. Currently, her role within the district is co-instructor for the Project SEARCH program at Kootenai Health. She has worked with the program since 2017.

Lakeland Joint School District Superintendent Lisa Arnold will retire after the close of the school year. "It is with a heavy heart that I let you know that I am retiring effective June 30," Arnold said in a letter to staff Friday. "After much soul searching and conversation with my husband, I think it is best for someone else to take the lead in our district. I know change is hard, but this could be a really good change.

COEUR d’ALENE — Five of North Idaho’s top young inventors will be competing June 4-6 in the Invention Convention U.S. Nationals in Dearborn, Mich. Last month, 110 students from across the Gem State showcased their ingenuity at the University of Idaho for the 2025 Idaho Invention Convention state finals. A total of 18 students advanced to the next level of competition.
