Pierson broke the top mark of 17.80 meters previously held by Kayli Johnson, who the Big 12 Women’s Outdoor Championship in the event in 2022. “When stuff gets hard, I don’t really run away from it,” Pierson said.

LUBBOCK, Texas — No. 8 Texas Tech closed out the University of Texas Tournament with an 11-0 loss to top-ranked Texas on Sunday. Just one day after tossing the fifth perfect game in program history, freshman pitcher Samantha Lincoln failed to record an out against the Longhorns. Texas (11-0) scored four runs in the first inning, followed by a three-run home run in the third by Katie Stewart, who drove in five runs in the game.

LUBBOCK, Texas — In her first event as a Red Raider, Texas Tech track and field’s Shelby Frank won the women’s weight throw competition at the Corky Classic on Jan. 17. Frank, a fifth-year athlete from Grand Forks, ND, transferred to Texas Tech last summer after spending four seasons at Minnesota.

LUBBOCK, Texas — Just one day after the final game of the regular season, head coach Joey McGuire announced defensive coordinator Tim Deruyter and passing game coordinator and secondary coach Marcel Yates will not return for the 2025 season. In a release, McGuire thanked both coaches for their three-year careers at Texas Tech. “I appreciate the work Coach DeRuyter and Coach Yates have provided our program the past three seasons,” McGuire said.
