Richmond’s first kava bar KavaClub announced that it will be closing at the end of the month. "While we've poured our hearts into this business, restrictions placed on us by the state government have made it impossible to run a small business," the owners posted to Instagram. Kava is an herbal drink that has been used for centuries in the South Pacific. The root of the kava plant is sun-dried and ground up into a powder, which is then kneaded by hand into a cheesecloth and into water.

The Friday night concert at the eagerly anticipated Allianz Amphitheater at Riverfront has been postponed due to an artist's illness. Kansas and 38 Special were set to celebrate the opening of the new $30 million riverfront amphitheater this Friday, but the concert has been rescheduled due to an illness with a member of 38 Special. Now, the opening concert will be Rick Springfield's "I Want My 80's" concert on Saturday at the Allianz Amphitheater.

Last year, Kabana Rooftop closed after an eight-year run as one of Richmond's very first rooftop bars. A new rooftop has taken its place -- Solaire Rooftop is now open on the 20th floor of Shamin Hotels' Hampton Inn Suites in downtown Richmond. Solaire comes from the same owners of Kabana, Neal Patel and Kunal Shah, along with new partner Aditya Mehta. "Richmond has evolved since Kabana opened. And we wanted Solaire to represent that," Mehta said.

Richmond restaurants and food trucks are getting into the excitement of the new exhibit “Frida: Beyond the Myth” opening at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. On Saturday, the VMFA is celebrating the grand opening with ¡FridaFest! from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., a community celebration with music, artist demonstrations and food trucks.
