LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - There are several road and lane closures across Lawton due to road construction and other projects. From roadwork, to waterline replacement, to a pedestrian bridge being added, you don’t have to look far to see orange traffic cones and roadwork signs in Lawton. “We just ask that as we further east into Rogers Lane, that motorists just exercise patience with us as we’re out here working,” said Bryce Lawson, resident engineer with ODOT.

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - Monday, Aug. 19, is the first day of training for the cadets attending the academy for the Lawton Police Department. LPD Academy Coordinator Sgt. Timothy Jenkins said among all applicants who went through the PT Assessment test, written test, interviews, and a polygraph test, only 14 became cadets. These 14 cadets will go through more training in defense tactics, firearms, and ethics to name a few. “It is going to be a great process,” Sgt. Jenkins said.

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KSWO) - Construction began Monday, Aug. 19, on Kemp Boulevard in Wichita Falls. Construction is taking place on Kemp Boulevard between Midwestern Parkway and Quill Street. TILLMAN CO., Okla. (KSWO) - The Tillman County Commissioners have issued a county-wide burn ban. The ban was issued due to the extreme fire danger risk in the county. The ban is set to last 14 days, during which people aren’t allowed to have grass, forest, or range fires. It also prohibits campfires, bonfires, the burning of trash and fireworks.

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) -7News reporter Mark Lowe joined Hannah Brown at Lawton Animal Welfare to introduce us to this week’s newest furry friend. Brown introduced us to Coda, the 8-month-old Siberian Husky mix. She said he would definitely do well in a home with kids, or any place that can handle all of his energy. Brown also said that they’ve seen an increase in calls relating to animals being left outside in the summer heat.

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - The City of Lawton is still working to finish up renovations to the Collier’s Landing area at Lake Ellsworth. The project was originally expected to be wrapped up by July 22, but delays kept the project from being finished on that date. LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - Authorities in Greer County are taking steps to provide potentially life saving care for countless students. The county sheriffs office, along with Greer County emergency management have provided trauma kits for every classroom in Mangum and Granite. The kits are aimed at providing critical support in emergency situations like active shooters, earthquakes and tornadoes. In addition to supplying the trauma kits, school faculty will receive national “Stop the Bleed” training.

COTTON CO., Okla. (KSWO) - The Cotton County Commissioners have renewed a county-wide burn ban that first went into effect on Aug. 2. The ban was renewed due to the dry and dangerous burning conditions in the county. The ban is set to last 14 days, during which people aren’t allowed to have grass, forest, or range fires. It also prohibits campfires, bonfires, the burning of trash and fireworks. Those caught not following the ban can face up to $500 in fines or a maximum of one year behind bars.

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - Comanche County Memorial Hospital held a job fair at the Lawton Farmers Market. The first part of the job fair was from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the fair continued later that night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.Taylor Farmer, the Administrative director of Human Resources for CCMH, said any body with degree in healthcare was welcome to come and apply, and even those with no experience in health care were invited.
