LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - Monday, Aug. 19, is the first day of training for the cadets attending the academy for the Lawton Police Department. LPD Academy Coordinator Sgt. Timothy Jenkins said among all applicants who went through the PT Assessment test, written test, interviews, and a polygraph test, only 14 became cadets. These 14 cadets will go through more training in defense tactics, firearms, and ethics to name a few. “It is going to be a great process,” Sgt. Jenkins said.

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - Comanche County Memorial Hospital held a job fair at the Lawton Farmers Market. The first part of the job fair was from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the fair continued later that night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.Taylor Farmer, the Administrative director of Human Resources for CCMH, said any body with degree in healthcare was welcome to come and apply, and even those with no experience in health care were invited.

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - The Lawton Police Department will be hosting free training on a motorcycle rider course this Saturday, Aug. 17. The training will happen from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., behind Central Mall. Anyone who can legally ride a motorcycle on the roadway can register for the class. “I feel like the amount of hours and time that our unit, our motor unit, has on motorcycles helps us to be able to relate our experience to teach the students on proper riding and in just safer ways to ride,” Sgt.

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - A back to school backpack party took place at the Patterson Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday, Aug. 12. The party kicked off at 10 a.m. and they gave out free haircuts and school supplies. There were also plenty of games for the kids and even a raffle with prizes. Yolanda Allen, the Activities Coordinator of the Patterson Center, said events like this are meant to help the community.

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - Saturday, August 10 is the 3rd Annual Pickle Fest at the Lawton Farmers Market!The fun starts at 8 a.m. and will end at 1 in the afternoon. For those of you who would like to go, you can look forward to a pickle competition, a pickle-eating competition and a variety of pickles to take home. In addition to that, the Pickle Queen and King will be crowned at the festival to honor the winners of the pickle-eating contest.
