BRAINERD — It came down to the No. 2s Tuesday, May 13. Trailing No. 9-seeded Grand Rapids 3-2, the two matches remaining for the No. 8-seeded Brainerd Warriors were No. 2 doubles and No. 2 singles. Grand Rapids’ Elliot Spahn-Luke Wheelock defeated Jace Anderson-Shawn Marcussen 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2 doubles to clinch the Section 7-2A opening-round win for the Thunderhawks over the Warriors.

EAST GULL LAKE — Brainerd’s Alex Imgrund knew he needed a birdie on his last hole Monday, May 12. The sophomore came to the par-5 18th hole tied for first in the Central Lakes Conference meet at Cragun’s Legacy Courses. Imgrund got up-and-down for birdie to shoot a 2-under, 69 and tab individual medalist honors at his home course. “I figured I was in there the whole round,” Imgrund said. “I missed a lot of good looks down the stretch.

BRAINERD — The Brainerd Warriors will get one more home match. Brainerd earned the No. 8 seed in the Section 7-2A Team Tournament and will host No. 9 seed Grand Rapids at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13. The Warriors finished the regular season with a couple of Section 7-2A losses to Blaine and Cambridge-Isanti Saturday, May 10, to tally a 6-14 record. The Thunderhawks and Warriors faced each other Wednesday, April 30, with Brainerd netting the home victory 5-2.

VERNDALE — Carter White loves Deacon’s Lodge. The Verndale senior won the Arnold Palmer Invitational for a third time Tuesday, May 6, with a 2-under, 70 to help the Staples-Motley Cardinals place second. White started his round with a bogey on the fifth hole. He bounced back with a birdie on the par-4 eighth hole and a birdie on the par-3 11th hole. He carded back-to-back birdies on holes 17 and 18 to reach 3-under.

BRAINERD — Brainerd goalie Eli DeRosier recorded 18 saves, but none bigger than the one in the final seconds to preserve an 8-7 win over the Big Lake-Princeton Huskies Friday, May 9. The Huskies made one last attempt in the final seconds to tie the game, but was thwarted by DeRosier as the clock hit zero. “Eli is fearless,” Warriors’ head coach Adam Extrand said. “He is big and strong. Not only is he making saves for us, but he is also making good decisions.

WADENA — Jada Dykhoff didn’t know. The Wadena-Deer Creek junior finished 1-2 with a run in a 3-0 win against Perham Friday, May 2. Her hit was the 100th of her career. The Wolverines now have two 100-hit players on their team as Dykhoff’s older sister and senior Jenna Dykhoff achieved the milestone last year. “It was a big deal,” Jada Dykhoff said. “It’s been one of my goals since my sister got it last year. It means a lot to me because I know all the hard work I put in has paid off.
College Softball: Raiders advance to Region 13A championship game

BRAINERD — One more win. That’s all the Central Lakes College Raiders need to become Region 13A Tournament champions and punch their ticket to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament. The Raiders beat No. 4 seed Northland 11-0 and No. 3 seed Itasca 11-1 Thursday, May 8, at CLC. They advance to the Region 13A championship game 1 p.m. Friday, May 9. The Raiders will have two chances to win one against either Minnesota West or Itasca as they play in the loser’s bracket at 11 a.m. Friday.

BRAINERD — With a week left in the regular season, the Aitkin Gobblers and Brainerd Warriors have a busy next six days. The Warriors bettered the Gobblers 6-1 in the non-conference match Monday, May 5, at Brainerd High School. It’s the Warriors' fourth win of the season and gives them a confidence boost headed into matches Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday before Section 7-2A seeding Sunday. “I think we played really well today,” Warriors’ head coach Garrett Goeden said.

MESA, Arizona — Tyler Seeling caught fire at the Summit League Championship April 27-29 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona. The South Dakota State University junior and former Pequot Lakes Patriot finished with a three-day 7-under to finish in a three-way tie for first place at 206. Seeling birdied the 18th hole to force a three-way playoff with Oral Roberts’ Kevin An and Denver’s Willis Panzarello. An made a par on the playoff hole to win the tournament and Seeling tied for second.
Baseball: Bemidji shuts down Brainerd

BRAINERD — Kobe Brown twirled a gem for the Bemidji Lumberjacks in a 7-0 Section 8-4A win over the Brainerd Warriors Friday, May 2, at Adamson Field. The senior quieted the Warriors’ bats with no runs on three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts across seven innings. Brown sent down the first nine Brainerd hitters before Maverick Badeaux beat out an infield single to lead off the fourth inning. Of his seven strikeouts, Brown sent down five Warriors looking.
