MICHAEL — Three Pequot Lakes relays will compete in the finals Thursday, June 12, after qualifying in the Class 2A state track and field prelims Wednesday, June 11, at St. Michael-Albertville High School. The 4x200 girls relay of Ashley Slaybaugh, Chelby Wothe, Josie Taylor and Ava Merta ran a seventh-place qualifying time of 1:43.37. Slaybaugh, Taylor and Merta were joined by Lila Nordby in the 4x100 relay that sneaked in as the last qualifier in 49.49.

ST. MICHAEL — Audrey Brownell is back on top. After placing second in the 3200-meter run yesterday, the Staples-Motley junior returned and repeated as state champion in the 1600 run in the Class 1A State Track and Field finals Wednesday, June 11, at St. Michael-Albertville High School. Brownell ran a 5:02.28, five seconds better than runner-up Valerie Quast of St Claire. Last season, Brownell was the state champion in the 800 and 1600 runs.
