BRAINERD — The plan for Ty Nelson was not to do the triple jump Tuesday, April 22, during the Warrior Quad. It’s a good thing plans change. BRAINERD — Jason Howard always felt he didn’t get to write his final chapter as a high school athlete. During his senior year of swimming, he got sick right before the section finals meet. BRAINERD -- In less-than-ideal weather conditions, Joe Smith blocked everything out and catapulted himself. The Brainerd Warrior junior soared through the air 13 feet and nine inches over the crossbar to set a personal best height and win the pole vault Thursday, April 10, during the Warrior Quadrangular . Smith’s previous best was 13-6, which he cleared to win the Central Lakes Conference Indoor Championship less than a week earlier. Thursday’s event was Brainerd’s first outside.
