Regina chiropractor gets 15-month community sentence for sex assault of patient

A Regina chiropractor was sentenced Monday to 15 monthsin the community for sexually assaulting a patient. Court of King’s Bench Justice Janet McMurtry said a prison sentence would have made it difficult for Ruben Manz to support his family. “Incarceration, in my view, would overemphasize the gravity of the offence,” said McMurtry.

A provincewide fire ban in Saskatchewan is set to be lifted today after rain and cooler weather offered some reprieve to those battling large-scale wildfires. Steve Roberts from the province’s public safety agency says the fire ban is being lifted as of 5 p.m. because officials have ruled there is enough precipitation and lower risk. The ban had been revised last week to encompass a smaller area of the province north of the provincial forest boundary, up to the Churchill River.
Unconscious pair in car had sawed-off rifle: Regina police

REGINA – A 30-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man are facing several charges after police discovered them unconscious in a vehicle early Sunday morning, leading to a seizure of sawed-off rifle. Regina Police Service says that around 2:15 a.m. on June 15 officers responded in the 1100 block of Broadway Ave., to reports of two unresponsive individuals inside a parked vehicle. When officers arrived, they confirmed both occupants were unconscious.
RCMP investigating oilfield thefts in the southeast

SOUTHEAST SASKATCHEWAN – The Carlyle RCMP says there have been several recent reports of break-and-enter-and-theft incidents to oilfield sites in the Redvers and Manor areas. "We are asking the public to contact the Carlyle RCMP at 306-453-6707 with any information relating to these incidents," the RCMP said in a post on the Saskatchewan Crime Watch Advisory Network. No further information was immediately released.

The firefight on the Prairies wildfire front took a new turn Friday as officials in two provinces worked to support evacuees, while affected communities readied themselves to bring residents home. Earlier this week, Saskatchewan’s government announced emergency support payments would be given to people forced to flee. It came after the province’s ombudsman slammed the government’s wildfire response.
