REGINA - A Moose Jaw man who is a cancer survivor and legally blind is fighting to stay in his government housing. Randy Hughes has lived in a Moose Jaw Housing Authority three bedroom bungalow along with his wife and a cat. Hughes had mobility issues and needs a wheelchair and a scooter to get around, but has considered the bungalow home for close to a decade and says it suits his needs.

REGINA – Those in the Cathedral neighbourhood got to hear from some of the candidates running in the federal election in Regina-Lewvan on Sunday evening. An all-candidates forum was put on by Cathedral Village Community Association. But those hoping to hear from — or potentially grill — Conservative incumbent Warren Steinley were in for a disappointments. Steinley’s campaign sent their regrets. Godwin Ezizor of the People’s Party also did not attend.

Humboldt-Watrous MLA Racquel Hilbert has been stripped of her duties following remarks in the House in which she referred to federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh as a terrorist. The government announced Friday that Hilbert has been removed from her additional MLA responsibilities, including Treasury Board, Wanuskewin Board of Directors, Caucus Irrigation Committee and Deputy Caucus Chair.

REGINA – The boards of Conexus, Cornerstone, and Synergy Credit Unions are recommending a merger to their members. It was announced Tuesday that the boards of the three credit unions have unanimously approved this recommendation, which will now go to the members in a voting process in June. The three credit unions had been in the exploration phase for the past several months.

Uncertainty over both the tariff situation and the economy loomed large as Premier Scott Moe opened the Global Food, Fuel and Fertilizer Global Summit conference put on by Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce. Moe’s speech to the audience in Regina touched on the challenges brought on by the tariffs imposed by “one individual,” as he referred to President Donald Trump, as well as from China on canola oil and seed.
