REGINA: Members of Conexus, Cornerstone and Synergy Credit Unions have voted yes to a merger. Members of all three credit unions voted overwhelmingly in favour of merger the three entities, clearing the way for the merger to happen over the next several months. The results were announced Wednesday morning and those saw 87.5 per cent of members from Conexus voting yes, 86.5 per cent of members from Cornerstone and 88.7 per cent from Synergy.

Opposition New Democrats resumed their attacks on the government’s wildfire response, this time raising questions of why a new water bomber aircraft was grounded during the fire response. At a news conference at the Legislature Monday, Opposition Public Safety critic Nicole Sarauer raised questions about why the newly-purchased Conair Dash-8- Q400AT “secretly sat idle on the tarmac” in La Ronge during the wildfire.

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May said the drive by Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government to rush its major projects bill through Parliament this week represents a “new low” in government contempt for Parliament. Speaking at a press conference Monday morning, May said she hasn't seen anything like it since the Conservative government under Stephen Harper pushed an omnibus bill through more than a decade ago.

House of Commons committees are taking shape for this session of Parliament with a top spot for Liberal Karina Gould and no representation at all for New Democrats. Gould, the MP for Burlington, was elected to chair the influential finance committee for this session of Parliament, with Conservative Jasraj Hallan and Jean-Denis Garon of the Bloc Québécois named as vice chairs.

The wildfires impacting northern Saskatchewan will have a major economic impact, in addition to the damage done to homes, buildings and peoples’ lives. “Obviously it would come as no surprise that, to me, you're looking at financial and emotional impacts that are far-reaching, extensive — that to me reach a lot of fabrics in society in this province,” said Keith Willoughby, Dean of the Edwards School Of Business, University of Saskatchewan.
