Power to thousands of homes was knocked out Wednesday night as a severe thunderstorm swept through western Montana. The National Weather Service in Missoula reported wind gusts of 80 miles an hour. Shortly after 9pm the agency urged people to take shelter immediately if outdoors. [9:05 pm MDT] 80 mph winds at KMSO airport currently.

The Missoula County Sheriff has ordered an evacuation in the Butler Creek area due to a nearby wildfire. Montana political figures released statements Saturday after a shooting at former President Donald Trump's rally in Butler, PA., on Saturday. According to the Secret Service,one rally attendee is dead and the suspected shooter is dead. Trump said on Truth Socialthat he was "shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear." Republic Sen. Steve Daines posted: Please join me in praying for President @realDonaldTrump and everyone else at the rally in Pennsylvania.

The Montana Supreme Court has cleared the way for proponents of a abortion rights ballot initiative to begin collecting signatures. Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen gave backers the go-ahead to collect signatures in compliance with the court order while also responding to a subpoena for the initiative from state lawmakers. Republican legislators plan to discuss the proposal and vote on whether they support or oppose it. The result of that vote could appear on the ballot if it advances.
