HELENA — Two bills that could open the door for a nuclear energy industry in Montana have passed the legislature and are headed to the Governor’s desk. allows for the creation of nuclear waste storage facilities. The standards set by the national Nuclear Regulatory Commission require nuclear plants to have a location to store their waste. The bill effectively allows future plants to store their waste on-site.

HELENA — On Thursday, a Federal District Judge Brian Morris for the District of Montana heard several motions in the State of Montana’s lawsuit against Yellowstone National Park over bison management. In December, the Gianforte Administration sued Yellowstone National Park over its new plan to increase bison populations and tolerance in and around the park.

HELENA — A Helena real estate agent has been fined $150,000 and sentenced to three years of felony probation after failing to provide lead-based paint disclosures to residents of veteran housing at Fort Harrison. A child in one of the units had to be treated for lead poisoning. Melanie Ann Carlin, 54, of Clancy, pleaded guilty in November to one felony count of knowing endangerment. Carlin owns 406 Properties in Helena.

The Montana Legislature has passed legislation preventing local governments from enacting laws to remove firearms from people who are considered a danger to themselves or others, also known as Red Flag laws. passed third reading in the Montana Senate on Monday, 29 to 19. HB 809 is now headed to the governor’s desk.
