Mendota residents will get to see what fellow residents would like to see in the city and provide input themselves in a pair of community summits hosted by Reimagine Mendota. Volunteers have spent most of the summer gathering data, asking about 25% of the population in the city what they love about Mendota and what they would like to see in the future. The Focus on Mendota Summit will be 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov.

The 2023 girls basketball season will tip off at four area sights Monday night. The Princeton Holiday Tournament gets underway Monday where the host Tigresses, Bureau Valley, Mendota, Putnam County and Henry will all play. The Storm and Mallards will play at 6:30 p.m. in the second game of the day on Monday. The mayor of Joliet reverted to his business role Thursday when hosting a ribbon-cutting for the largest Hyundai dealership in North America. The 67,500-square-foot dealership building on Essington Road is three times the size of Terry D’Arcy’s former Hyundai location. “It’s the biggest in North America,” D’Arcy said while conducting a tour of the new facility. “I have a lot of faith in Hyundai. I plan to grow into it.”The D’Arcy Hyundai dealership opened Sept. 5.

The legislative office of state Sen. Craig Wilcox will serve as a collection site for the annual U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign. New, unwrapped toys and other gifts for children of all ages will be collected through Friday, Dec. 8. Collections will be accepted from 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Wilcox’s office, 209 N. Benton St., Woodstock. Local collection campaigns take place annually in more than 800 communities across all 50 states.
