DENVER (KDVR) — The former Park Hill Golf Course is one step closer to becoming a new large park in Denver. The new plans for the Park Hill area passed committee, and the first official reading is Monday night. The city of Denver announced in January that the site at 35th Avenue, west of Colorado Boulevard, was acquired from the would-be developers in a land-swap deal. Developers plan on turning the space into an urban park.

LONGMONT, Colo. (KDVR) — Several state agencies got a bird’s eye view Thursday morning to practice skills on fighting wildfires from above. The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control does the training annually, and teams up with the Colorado National Guard and a couple of local fire departments to make it happen.
Aurora police handing out free steering wheel locks to crack down on auto thefts

AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — On Monday, police are inviting people in the community to swing by the Aurora Police Department Headquarters to grab a free steering wheel lock. At the Aurora Police Department Headquarters, located at 15001 E. Alameda Pkwy., officers will hand out the wheel locks from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. They will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, with a maximum of two per household. If you would like to grab one, you need to bring two documents to show proof of your vehicle.

DENVER (KDVR) — King Soopers employees were up early Thursday morning to get on the picket line and go on strike after bringing up a series of issues they said they wanted addressed by the large grocery chain. The UFCW local 7 union represents the grocery store workers and said the strike will cover all unionized King Soopers stores throughout Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson counties, as well as King Soopers stores in the cities of Boulder and Louisville.

LONE TREE, Colo. (KDVR) — Lone Tree Police are crediting a quick response Tuesday, after two suspects attempted to steal from Dillard’s Park Meadows mall for quick cash. “He stole a $600 vacuum,” Commander Brett Callahan with the Lone Tree Police Department said. Callahan said that employees within the Dillard’s notified the Lone Tree Mall Unit of the suspect, 32-year-old Fernando Gilbert-Olivarez, fleeing the west side of the store with the vacuum.

Jefferson County to vote on controversial mountain bike park near Conifer

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — On Tuesday morning, the Jefferson County Commissioners are expected to vote on whether a hot-debated mountain bike park will be built near the town of Conifer. The park, called Shadow Mountain Bike Park, is now four years in the making and is being organized by two lifelong mountain bikers in the community, along with partnering with the Colorado Mountain Bike Association.
