An epic historical fiction debut novel, Saltblood is Francesca De Tores’ first foray into the genre after success as a poet and with her post-apocalyptic Fire Sermon series (written under the name Francesca Haig). The novel’s tale of gender, survival and adventure follows Mary Read from birth to death and takes in everything in between.

“Ignore the present. Forget the past. The rocks remain unmoved.”The title of this Aboriginal/Blak poetry and story anthology, The Rocks Remain, comes from Brad Darkson’s prose contribution waiting for kakirra. The phrase is a solid theme throughout the anthology, which features 25 emerging and established Aboriginal poets and writers, all with a connection to South Australia. In the foreword, editors Karen Wyld and Dominic Guerrera say they didn’t “want the notion of borders to engender exclusion”.
