A proposal to ban the sale or use of algorithmic rental price-fixing software in Portland was referred back to the Housing and Homelessness Committee on Wednesday. Portland City Council was expected to vote on the measure Wednesday evening, but Councilor Angelita Morillo cited “new litigation,” indirectly referring to a lawsuit in Berkeley, California regarding a similar rental pricing software ban. The councilor said the lawsuit warrants closer examination before moving forward.

Updated: 7:20 pm, Wednesday April 16 Portland police officers returned to Northwest Portland Wednesday afternoon, to effectuate the arrest of a man involved in an armed standoff earlier in the week. Police used a bevy of weapons, including tear gas, a police K9, a flash bang device, and robots to force a 44-year-old unidentified man out of a tent near NW 21st Ave and Hoyt.
