A one-block stretch of a downtown street will be closed Monday as part of the construction of a major new park. City crews will close 106 Street from Jasper Avenue to 102 Avenue for work on Warehouse Park including the construction of sidewalks, a bike lane and a storm sewer, and the installation of new lighting.

Work has started to erect a new air-supported dome that will host tennis and pickleball courts on Edmonton’s west end. The facility is being built by Tennis Canada in the Johnny Bright Sports Park between Jasper Place and St. Francis Xavier high schools on 163 Street on the existing outdoor tennis courts.

His long-term future with the team aside, Connor McDavid said Thursday the job – winning the Stanley Cup – isn’t yet over for the Edmonton Oilers. The National Hockey League superstar, who’s soon eligible for contract extension with the team that drafted him 10 years ago but who was a bit coy as to whether he’d sign one after July 1, said the plan for the Oilers would be to once again scale the mountain that is the nine-month quest to win the championship.

RCMP said pedestrian Preston Arndt died after being hit by a vehicle in a Blackfalds parking lot off Highway 2A late Monday night.
