The recent rupture of the National and Liberal parties federally exposes a troubling trend in Australian politics and life: the erosion of the ability or desire to communicate and find a genuine compromise. Once, political coalitions, workplace relationships, and teams were built on reconciling different priorities in pursuit of shared goals. Today, it seems, in many instances, that cooperation is off the table unless there is total ideological or personal alignment.
