The St. Louis Cardinals are off to somewhat of a slow start in 2025. This year, they are not expected to be a strong contender. As such, the Cardinals may sell off a few pieces at the trade deadline if they fall out of the mix by then. One piece that could be on the move is All-Star closer Ryan Helsley. Helsley set a Cardinals franchise record last season with 49 saves and posted a 2.04 ERA. It was enough for him to earn his second All-Star nod and National League Reliever of the Year honors.

The Miami Marlins are playing surprisingly well to start the 2025 season. While not dominant by any stretch, they are 8-8 through their first 16 games and are only 2 1/2 games back of first place in the National League East. However, all eyes have been on them because of one pitcher who seems increasingly likely to be traded. Sandy Alcantara is back from Tommy John surgery, and the expectation is that Miami will trade him at the deadline or potentially even before.

The New York Yankees have some holes in their starting rotation with two pitchers, Gerrit Cole and Luis Gil on the injured list. Clarke Schmidt is close to returning, but New York may need to add a starter or two at the trade deadline. Jake Elman of Athlon Sports proposed the idea of New York targeting somebody like German Marquez to fill a need. That obviously isn't earth-shattering, and Yankees fans will likely want a bigger move.

The New York Yankees have been hit hard by injuries this year, especially with the starting rotation. Gerrit Cole is out for the year and Luis Gil is also currently on the shelf. Fortunately, Clarke Schmidt is close to making his return, but that doesn't mean New York doesn't have a glaring need for more rotation help. Ideally, the Yankees could trade for a frontline starter, but this early in the game, that is unlikely. Instead, New York may have to aim a little lower.

The New York Yankees currently lead the American League East with a 10-7 record through their first 17 games. They won the division last year with 94 wins and cruised to the World Series. However, it's never too early to start thinking about the future. New York has some issues with its starting rotation, and some of them won't be fixed until 2026 when Gerrit Cole makes his eventual return from Tommy John surgery. Next offseason, right-hander and All-Star Zac Gallen will be a free agent.
