The Barracuda begin the Calder Cup playoffs with a best-of-three series against the Ontario Reign, with all games in Southern California. Games 1 and 2 will be at Crypto.com Arena, home of the Los Angeles Kings, on Thursday and Saturday, respectively, and Game 3, if necessary, will be at Toyota Arena in Ontario on Monday. SAN JOSE — Another season in which the San Jose Sharks have finished at the bottom of the NHL standings has, perhaps mercifully, come to a conclusion. The Sharks hoped to finish the year on a positive note. But with their 3-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night at SAP Center, they ended with just 20 wins and 51 points, only marginally better than their totals from a season ago.

SAN JOSE – The San Jose Sharks are guaranteed a top-three pick in this year’s NHL Draft and are confident they’ll be able to grab an impactful player that can, at some point, fit alongside other recent first-round selections Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, and William Eklund. But this is the last time Sharks general manager Mike Grier wants to be in this spot. “We’ve been lucky to get (Smith) and to get (Celebrini), and we’re going to get another really good player this year,” Grier said Friday.

SAN JOSE — Alexandar Georgiev’s time with the San Jose Sharks is ending, with general manager Mike Grier going in a different direction with his team’s goaltending. Georgiev said minutes after the Sharks’ season-ending 3-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday that Grier has informed him that he will not be back with the team next season.

Another Sharks forward commits to playing in the World Championships. The commute for Alexander Wennberg should be easy, anyway, since he said he has a home 20-25 minutes away from Avicii Arena.

The Blackhawks beat the Bruins 5-2 and are now five points ahead of the Sharks for 31st place in the NHL standings. Sharks would need six points in their last four games to pass Chicago, since the Hawks own the first tiebreaker (regulation wins). Sure seems like the Sharks
