The Coalition for Collaborative Government is spearheaded by Holly Krebs, a Lawrence resident and former planning commission member. Krebs said her onus for creating the coalition came after frustrations with the community engagement process during discussion over a renovation to the outdoor pool in the fall.

Share this post or save for laterKU students, propelled by the firing of a student employee who had spoken out, marched Wednesday to the housing offices in protest of the university’s decision to end gender-inclusive housing at Grace Pearson Scholarship Hall next year. GP has provided gender-inclusive housing for years, but in February the university announced it was removing that option for the 2025-26 school year. GP residents have protested the change.

The Cardinals girls basketball season — which featured league and substate titles and only three losses — came to a close Thursday night with a tough battle in the state quarterfinals against Bishop Miege. Seniors said the year was special and taught them lessons they will carry for years to come. The Cardinals kept it close early with Bishop Miege, who has won five straight state titles.

The Library Board on Tuesday voted to approve up to $20,000 to commission a technical report of the former quilt store building at 736 Main St., advancing discussions of the location as a future library but stopping short of endorsing the move. The payment will allow architects with Multistudio, a Lawrence-based design firm, to evaluate what the cost would be to improve and renovate the building.

The girls powerlifting team took home six individual titles on their way to a top-three finish, and the boys team sent multiple lifters to the podium at the state meet in Wellington this weekend. Senior Reese Pattison dominated the 180-pound weight class with wins in bench, squat and clean, plus an overall title. “We had a lot of new faces this year,” Pattison said. “It was just a really fun time to say it simply.
