    Share Family members told a Topeka man who was sentenced to nearly 11 years Tuesday for recklessly murdering their loved one that their lives were forever changed. A Topeka man accused of recklessly shooting and killing an 18-year-old Lawrence man pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder after reaching an agreement with the Douglas County district attorney.

Adornment features works by apprentice artists at Van Go, an arts-based nonprofit that employs and provides social services to Douglas County teens and young adults ages 14 to 24. Each fall, the artists begin creating smaller-scale pieces, such as ornaments, glassware, home goods, cards and magnets for the annual holiday show. Prices start at $3.

As the sun sets on Friday, Nov. 29, those in attendance will count down before the lights strung throughout downtown will be lit to commence the holiday season. Then, look to the roof of Weaver’s Department Store, where Santa will find himself in need of saving. Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical will be there to get him back on solid ground.
