:All shops, commercial establishments, hotels, restaurants and industrial units in Tiruvannamalai should have bigger and bolder name boards in Tamil by May 15, as per a drive initiated by the labour department. Officials of the Department of Labour Welfare, which will monitor the exercise, said that despite the existence of laws, shops and other commercial establishments in the district are reluctant in having Tamil name boards, mainly due to fear of loss of business.

Days after the new bridge collapsed across Then Pennai river in Tiruvannamalai, residents in Thondamanur, a reserved panchayat, are back to their old ways of trekking 20 km to reach Thandrampattu , the nearest town, for basic needs. The high-level bridge collapsed after the release of over two lakh cusecs of rainwater from Sathanur dam by WRD on Tuesday. It was inaugurated by the Minister for Public Works, Highways and Minor Ports, E.V. Velu, on September 2.
