Questions about the future of the state board of education are forcing people in our state’s Capitol to choose sides. Governor Kevin Stitt and State Superintendent Ryan Walters are on opposite sides of the argument, and it heated up this week. "What you see is the governor going behind the scenes here trying to cut a last-minute deal to say, 'I want to control the board of education,’” Walters said. Senate Bill 646 exposed a gulf between Oklahoma’s governor and the state superintendent.

THE LATEST NOW FROM THE CAPITOL. THAT THE MONEY BELONGS TO YOU, NOT TO THE GOVERNMENT. THIS WEEK, GOVERNOR KEVIN STITT PUSHING FOR AN INCOME TAX CUT FOR OKLAHOMANS AGAIN. BUT THE NEW TWIST, A PLEDGE SIGNED BY 17 STATE SENATORS TO GET IT DONE. SO LOOK ON THERE. SEE IF YOUR SENATOR IS ON THAT LIST AND LET’S GET TAX CUTS DONE. AND FOLLOWING THAT PLEDGE, A RESOLUTION FILED AND SUPPORTED BY THOSE STATE SENATORS AND MORE LAWMAKERS. THAT RESOLUTION WOULD GIVE A QUARTER OF A PERCENT CUT TO YOUR INCOME TAX.

Gov. Kevin Stitt said Oklahoma should not fund investigators focused on missing and murdered Indigenous people. The announcement came a day after he vetoed a bill meant to clean up the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation's office for MMIP. "The bill that I vetoed was asking the state to start funding that office instead of the federal government," Stitt said.
