SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Springfield Cardinals continued their Texas League North series with Arkansas Wednesday night. The Travs are the Double AA affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. Both the Cardinals and Travelers are tied for first in the north. And southpaw Ixan Henderson was on the hill, looking to go 2-0 on the season. He ends the first by striking out Bill Knight swinging. Henderson pitched five innings, gave up one run and struck out seven.
Sorenstam helping kids get onto the golf course

I’m Dan Lucy on the Ozarks First digital desk. If you watched the Masters last weekend you saw a cute commerical showing kids just starting to play golf. And the initiative to get more kids golfing is getting traction. In 2024 3.7 million kids aged 6 through 17 played a round of golf. That’s a 50 percent increase from five years ago. One of the all-time greats Annika Sorenstam is behind a new effort to get even more young kids into golf.

I’m Dan Lucy on the Ozarks First digital desk. Missouri State baseball drops its second straight Tuesday battle with a Power Four program. Two weeks ago, the Bears lost at Kansas State. There is some good news for the baseball Bears. Max Knight has been named to the John Olerud Award watch list. Knight is one of 35 players on this list. The award honors the best two way player in the nation. Max Knight plays first base, and pitches for the Bears.

I’m Dan Lucy on the Ozarks First digital desk. It was a wild ride at Augusta National for the 89th Masters. Rory McIlroy started Sunday with the lead, lost a share of it, got it back, and then had to win in a playoff with Justin Rose. But on the extra hole, McIlroy made his championship putt, and finally won his elusive green jacket. And now has won all four major golf championships in his career. Here are his thoughts talking with the media following Sunday’s championship win.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Missouri State Bears swept Valparaiso Sunday afternoon at Hammons Field in record setting fashion. MoState is in first place in the Valley and has won three in a row. The Beacons still have not won a game in Springfield, Valpo is 0-13 in Springfield. In our Bear Nation update, Missouri State scored four in the bottom of the first, Curry Sutherland singles to left, Zack Stewart scores and it’s 4-0 Bears. But Valpo had a big third, and led 5-4.

Hello everyone, I’m Dan Lucy on the Ozarks First digital desk. For three days the best golfers in the world have been battling it out for the coveted green jacket that goes to a Masters champion. But not all the golfers in north Georgia this week are inside the walls at Augusta National Golf Course. John Daly is in Augusta, as he has been every year for decades now. Daly played in the Masters a dozen times, but his last appearance on the course was in 2006.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The first place Missouri State Bears continued their series with Valparaiso Saturday afternoon. The Bears snapped a two game losing streak with ninth inning heroics Friday night. Saturday, the Bears continued to bash the baseball. In our Bear Nation update, MoState has never lost to the Beacons in Springfield. And it was 2-0 Valpo in the bottom of the first, two on and Carter Bergman takes this deep to left, way over the bullpen and gone, a three run homer it’s 3-2 Bears.

I’m Dan Lucy on the Ozarks First digital desk. Beth Cunningham has a new shooting guard. In our Bear Nation update. The Lady Bears coach has signed transfer Zoe Canfield. Canfield spent her freshman year at Kansas where she appeared in 15 games with one start. Her best outing was a 12 point performance at K-State. Canfield is from Topeka, and won state championships for Washburn Rural high school in both basketball and volleyball. Her brother Jett played hoops at Creighton.
