SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Springfield Cardinals continued their Texas League North series with Arkansas Wednesday night. The Travs are the Double AA affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. Both the Cardinals and Travelers are tied for first in the north. And southpaw Ixan Henderson was on the hill, looking to go 2-0 on the season. He ends the first by striking out Bill Knight swinging. Henderson pitched five innings, gave up one run and struck out seven.

And the initiative to get more kids golfing is getting traction. In 2024 3.7 million kids aged 6 through 17 played a round of golf. That’s a 50 percent increase from five years ago. One of the all-time greats Annika Sorenstam is behind a new effort to get even more young kids into golf.

I’m Dan Lucy on the Ozarks First digital desk. Missouri State baseball drops its second straight Tuesday battle with a Power Four program. Two weeks ago, the Bears lost at Kansas State. There is some good news for the baseball Bears. Max Knight has been named to the John Olerud Award watch list. Knight is one of 35 players on this list. The award honors the best two way player in the nation. Max Knight plays first base, and pitches for the Bears.

Rory McIlroy started Sunday with the lead, lost a share of it, got it back, and then had to win in a playoff with Justin Rose. But on the extra hole, McIlroy made his championship putt, and finally won his elusive green jacket. And now has won all four major golf championships in his career. Here are his thoughts talking with the media following Sunday’s championship win.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Missouri State Bears swept Valparaiso Sunday afternoon at Hammons Field in record setting fashion. MoState is in first place in the Valley and has won three in a row. The Beacons still have not won a game in Springfield, Valpo is 0-13 in Springfield. In our Bear Nation update, Missouri State scored four in the bottom of the first, Curry Sutherland singles to left, Zack Stewart scores and it’s 4-0 Bears. But Valpo had a big third, and led 5-4.
