There was a lot that could have gone wrong last weekend when Rhode Island FC played its first match at Centerville Bank Stadium, the brand new nine-figure home field for a pro soccer franchise that hates being called minor league but isn’t quite major league, either. The lines to get in were around-the-street long, and the traffic patterns near the Pawtucket stadium were confusing. It’s kind of expensive.

Johnson & & Wales University has announced plans to slash about 5 percent of its workforce – 91 jobs – as part of an effort to close a $34 million operating deficit, according to a memo issued by Chancellor Mim L. Runey. Runey said the university – which has closed campuses in North Miami, Florida, and Denver in recent years – has seen a 54 percent decrease in enrollment since it peaked in 2011 with 17,294 students.
