    NEBRASKA CITY – Emergency crews are on the scene of an accident on Highway 75 eight miles south of Nebraska City. A second call for firefighters and tankers was made at 9:06 p.m. with the pickup truck on fire. Julian and Talmage firefighters were called for mutual aid. Alternative routes are advised as both lanes of traffic are blocked.

    NewsUNADILLA – The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office reports a chemical spill Wednesday when a bridge collapsed under an agricultural sprayer. A press release says the driver, a 59-year-old man from Mead, was not injured, but herbicide in the sprayer was released into a creek near County Road D between roads 12 and 14. Otoe County Emergency management responded to the spill and the Nebraska Department of Environment is overseeing the incident. Here is the sheriff's press release

    AUBURN – The swimming pool is a popular summer destination, but Auburn resident Jenika Mullins says the city should not be gambling with its water resources in the midst of a drought and a city-declared water emergency. She said the 1.5 million gallons remaining in the water reservoir for the cities of Auburn and Peru would only fill the pool four times and she is leery that five-years of abnormally dry weather could become more severe.     NEBRASKA CITY - State probation gave a report at Tuesday’s Otoe County Board meeting highlighting drug court and fentanyl abuse. Chief Probation Officer Melanie Stormer said a rise in occurrences of Fentanyl is a concern for the 10 counties in southeast Nebraska that are part of the first judicial district. The federal Drug Enforcement Administration estimated there were around 1.5 million potentially lethal doses of Fentanyl distributed in Nebraska in 2023.
