    FALLS CITY – The primary circulator of a recall petition for Falls City Mayor Mark Harkendorff says the petition has failed. Kaylie Ractliffe had 30 days to turn in 475 signatures from Falls City voters, but the county clerk’s office reports that no signatures were turned in by the end of May. Ractliffe said people had expressed support for the recall effort but some said they would not sign for concern about losing customers or getting in trouble at work for having their name on a petition.

    AUBURN – The Auburn Board of Public Works is pursuing plans to pull water from Long’s Creek in response to the drought contingency stage 3 water emergency. Minutes of the May 21 meeting, say the board is working with state agencies for a temporary treatment plant for the Long’s Creek water. The board also discussed preliminary engineering for a connection with Nebraska City Utilities’ water resources. A water subcommittee decided not to pursue an $87,000 quote from JEO.
