Leading French GC contender David Gaudu has confirmed that he will be missing the Tour de France this year due to poor form. The Groupama-FDJ leader is the second top French name to announce this week he will not be taking part in his home Grand Tour after one-day specialist Benoît Cosnefroy (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) already said earlier this week he would not be taking part in either the Nationals or the Tour because of an ongoing knee injury.

Tom Pidcock has closed the book on the first half of his debut season with Q36.5, rounding it out with a 16th place overall at the Giro d'Italia, his first-ever outing at the Italian Grand Tour. The British rider started his year out strong with an overall win at the AlUla Tour and a podium at the Vuelta a Andalucía, also collecting podiums at Strade Bianche, La Flèche Wallonne and two stages of Tirreno-Adriatico.

Primož Roglič (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) has crashed once again at the Giro d'Italia, falling on the wet roads of Pisa during a recon ride ahead of Tuesday's stage 10 time trial in Pisa. The Slovenian has already been in the wars during the ongoing Giro d'Italia, having crashed on Sunday's strade bianche stage to Siena. He lost a valuable 1:15 to main maglia rosa rival Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) at the finish, but was his usual unfazed self following the stage.
