    COLORADO SPRINGS — During a hearing Friday morning, Jon and Carie Hallford pleaded guilty to their state charges for more than 200 criminal counts. The couple faces charges of abuse of a corpse, forgery, theft, and money laundering after 190 bodies were found decomposing without proper refrigeration at their funeral home back in October of 2023.     DENVER — The Colorado legend who built Bishop Castle 50 miles southwest of Pueblo has died. James "Jim" Roland Bishop was 80 years old at the time of his passing. His son, Daniel Bishop, said he died early Thursday morning in hospice after battling Parkinson’s disease for many years. Jim spent 44 years of his life building the historical landmark, which stands along state Highway 165 in the Rye area in southern Colorado.

    COLORADO SPRINGS — At around 9 a.m. on September 6, an El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputy located a stolen vehicle near Brant Road and Expedition Drive. The vehicle fled the scene, evading the deputy entirely. About five minutes later, the same deputy found the vehicle in Windmill Mesa Park and attempted to make contact. The vehicle fled the scene again, striking the deputy. The deputy fired at least one round from his department-issued handgun. It does not appear that the bullet hit the driver.

    PUEBLO — The Bishop family has recently announced that James (Jim) Roland Bishop, builder of Bishop Castle, has passed away. Bishop reportedly passed on November 21 in Pueblo, surrounded by his loved ones. Services will be announced at a later date. The castle began its ever-evolving facade in 1971 which began as a 40-foot metal cylinder encased in stone. By 1972 Bishop was determined to build his castle and the project took shape, changing and continuing to grow through the years.
