(WJBF) – Celebrations are continuing in Syria after rebels ousted the longtime president from power. Bashar Al Assad and his family reportedly fled to Russia where according to state television, they were granted political asylum. Prosecutors say he used the military and chemical weapons on his own people to remain in control. WJBF’s Mary Morrison sat down with one of our photojournalists who is originally from Syria. Dania Alawir was born in Hamah, Syria in 1981 and has lived all over the world.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Sometimes disasters bring out the best in people. An example of that is the Relic Coffee shop on Monte Sano Avenue in Summerville. NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WJBF) – It looks like any normal Saturday morning for these kids in North Augusta. You get up and play basketball with your friends and hang out. “Play basketball, just relax and just play,” said Antwan, a second grader who lives in North Augusta Gardens. But for 9 year old Antwan and his neighbors at North Augusta Gardens, it’s not any normal Saturday. It’s ‘Adopt-A-Block’ day. Early Thursday morning, students, staff, and faculty raised the Clothesline Project up along the perimeter walking path for yet another year on Augusta University’s Summerville campus and WJBF Photojournalist Dania Alawir joined them in their efforts to shine a light on a sensitive subject.
