For episode 17 of the Boxing Fanatics podcast, me and Oscar Pick analyse how Ekow Essuman caused a major upset by outpointing Josh Taylor in Glasgow last Saturday. Taylor was a favourite going into the contest but at the age of 34 years old, his best days might be behind him. Essuman, who is two years older than Taylor, looked the fresher fighter and deserved to capture the biggest win of his pro career.

Josh Taylor might have to retire if he loses to Ekow Essuman tonight at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow. Taylor (19-2, 13 KOs) is coming off back-to-back losses to Teofimo Lopez and Jack Catterall and has not looked his best since defeating Jose Ramirez in 2021 to become the first undisputed British world champion in the four-belt era. And many believe ‘The Tartan Tornado’ was fortunate to be awarded a split decision in his first bout against Catterall in 2022.

In the 16th episode of the Boxing Fanatics podcast me and Oscar Pick reflect on Dave Allen’s savage 5th round stoppage victory over Johnny Fisher at the Copperbox Arena, London. The first fight ended with Fisher being awarded a controversial win on the scorecards. But this time, Allen took the contest out of the judge’s hands by dropping and then knocking out Fisher. When Allen turned up at the weigh-in looking overweight, many thought Fisher would cruise to a decision.

Johnny Fisher will hope to win without any controversy when he rematches Dave Allen tomorrow night. Fisher (13-0, 11 KOs) returns to the infamous ‘Copperbosh’ arena to prove he is a better fighter than Allen, who dropped him and whom many believe deserved to get the decision when they first clashed last December in Riyadh.

Anthony Cacace went into Leigh Wood’s backyard and pulverised him with a ninth-round stoppage victory. With less than a minute to go in the round, Cacace (24-1, 9 KOs) landed a powerful left hook to the body before swarming Wood with a flurry of punches and prompting Ben Davison to throw the white towel. This came after Cacace connected with a massive left hook and then a right uppercut to score a standing knockdown earlier in the ninth as Wood fell backwards and was held up by the ropes.
