This is part of Egg, an attempt to explain why Americans have absolutely lost their minds over egg prices. It’s a simple fact of life: Eggs are counted. They’re numbered, added, subtracted, and amounted to their sum total. We expect a dozen eggs in a carton and order two-egg omelets; we halve them for the devil, but we don’t count our chickens before they hatch (actually about eggs!); and so on and so forth.
