U.S. Department of Education issued final Title IX regulations governing sex discrimination complaints involving educational institutions. The regulations clarify terms, expand the geographical scope of Title IX, amend the investigation process, and include sexual orientation, gender identity, and pregnancy/lactation issues within Title IX's protections. Educational institutions have until August 1, 2024, to update their policies and train staff on the new Title IX requirements.

Skaters, scooter users and BMX riders are now counting down the days until the new Maybole skate park opens early in 2024. More than £224,000 is being spent on the project, with the aim of ensuring that the new 'wheeled zone' is one of the best in the country. Local community groups were consulted during the planning stage and their suggestions have been incorporated into the final design. New pictures have been revealed showing the extent of the ongoing work.

The latest statistics from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) show that firefighters attended more than 1,500 kitchen fires in the last year – around four every day. The figures also showed that the majority of all house fires attended by crews started in the kitchen.

Gary Burgess, who started by running a half-marathon every single day in the first half of 2023 before being told by doctors to stop for health reasons, reached the finish line on Thursday, December 21.
