Plans have been submitted to build 5 new homes on land adjacent to the former St Helens railway station, which was recently listed for sale for the first time in 70 years. The development is proposed for land north of Station House on Station Road, St Helens – the original station master’s residence and a landmark of the village’s railway history. The property and surrounding grounds were placed on the market earlier this year with 3 separate plots now available.

Council chiefs across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are waiting to learn if proposals for devolution have met the Government’s statutory tests. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) is expected to confirm later this month if the planned regional authority and elected mayoralty can continue to the next phase. As part of the government’s priority programme, work is ongoing to create a new mayoral combined county authority (MCCA) for Hampshire and the Solent.

A final decision on whether speedway will return to the Isle of Wight in 2025 has been delayed until later this month as promoters continue to battle against rising costs and logistical challenges. Supporters and volunteers gathered in the Premier Lounge last Friday (31st May) to hear from Warriors’ promoters Barry Bishop and Martin Widman, who provided an update on efforts to bring the sport back to the Isle of Wight this season.

16 years ago today I was offered a place at Sandown High Sixth Form - but I never took up the offer. Further Education isn’t always the answer as not one size fits all - I’m proof that you can forge a career through experience and entrepreneurial spirit.
